Вестерло - Владивосток

My trusty Ural Ranger (aka Gear-Up) will be the one doing all the hard work while I drive it from Westerlo, Belgium to Vladivostok, Russia. My progress can be followed via this blog. If posting stops ... well, I'm either back home or some bear had me for lunch. Pictures -> http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e137/dommel5/Vladivostok/

Baikal Shaman

Again it is late in the morning before I get out of my tent. After breakfast I manage to check my air filter and clean it a bit. I even find an easier way to get that damn thing out from there. Usually it is quite a feat to inspect the air filter. Everything appears to be OK. I thought it would be worse. The low idle must be carb related, but I don't feel like doing that now. I know ... I'm lazy.
I head back into town to send a message to Doug to better describe the location and just to ride the bike. It is bizarre, but you sort of get used to riding. And it feels like something is wrong when you haven't ridden for a day.
The weather is sort of strange. It rained a bit when we first came here, but for the rest it was actually OK even though some very thick clouds were visible. It was warm with basking sun. I even managed to dry the laundry I did in the hotel in Irkutsk although I was expecting a thunderstorm anytime. I guess the mountains and the proximity of the lake create a weather pattern that is difficult to predict and get a grip on. Two areas in close proximity here can probably have a completely different day: one rain, the other sun.
Shortly after coming back from town two Polish bikers showed up. They are a couple and are touring Russia on one bike. He speaks English.
Sometime in the late afternoon, Doug shows up. It is great to see him again. Of course he is the center of attention and everybody wants to meet him, talk to him and see his Indian (which they usually mistake for a Harley-Davidson).
We eat, drink, attend the contests and talk. I go to bed a bit earlier than usual as tomorrow we head out to Ulan-Ude.
